LAKE COMO TOWNS
Elenco dei paesi
Climbing the western shore of the lake, you come to the villages of Tremezzo,
Cadenabbia and Griante – classic Anglo-Saxon tourism destinations.
After Blevio, you may suddenly appreciate the Como panorama as you journey
down the ‘Lariana’ provincial main road. As the sun goes down over the Villa Olmo hills,
a wonderful Lake Como sunset can be enjoyed from the town of Como.
Setting off from Como and climbing the road coasting the western side of the lake,
you come to Cernobbio, with its great and refined villas (Villa d'Este,
Villa Erba and Villa Pizzo). After Laglio (George Clooney’s village),
Brienno is one of the most attractive and atmosphere-rich hamlets.
Como: a visit to Como Cathedral and the Volta Temple is a must.
Cernobbio: its most famous and prominent villa is Villa d'Este,
today the Grand Hotel Villa d'Este.
Argegno: a road starts here for travelling the Intelvi Valley,
which joins Lake Como to Lake Lugano.
Bellagio: the 'Pearl of Lake Como', with numerous villas
(Villa Serbelloni, Villa Melzi).
Tremezzo: the Tremezzina Riviera takes its name from this village;
the most well-known Tremezzo residence is Villa Carlotta.
Menaggio: thanks to its mild climate and sunny position, it is
surprisingly lively and offers an exotic flora; the residences such as Villa Mylius Vigoni are a must.
Dongo: the Town Hall, housed within the neoclassical
Palazzo Manzi, is of historical importance.
Gravedona: one of the most active artistic hubs by Lake Como;
Palazzo Gallio and the Church of S.Maria del Tiglio deserve a visit.
The only island on Lake Como is Isola Comacina. Its patron saint
(St. John the Baptist) is celebrated on 24 June, when the historical
battle of 1167 is re-enacted.
